Between
Between the caucus and the carcass
between the chaos and the calm
between the fracas and the ruckus
between the righteous and the damned
Between the priest and the sermon
between the singer and the song
no one can determine
why we all can’t get along
Between the question and the answer
there is a life time of space
between the dance and the dancer
there is beauty and there is grace
Everyone’s
got something to bring
affect one thing
affect one thing
Everyone’s
got something to bring
affect one thing
affect one thing
Between the caucus and the chaos
between the crack house and the calm
between the raucous and the ruckus
between the righteous and the damned
Between the priest and the sermon
between the lawyer and the law
no one can determine
what is right and what is wrong
Between the question and the answer
there is a life time of space
between the dance and the dancer
there is beauty and there is grace
Everyone’s
got something to bring
affect one thing
affect one thing
In response to the dverse prompt to write a poem using repetition (thanks Jilly). I had the first 3 verses for a while..the prompt spurred me to finish the poem!
Excellent! Do you also write the music? You are a lyricist extraordinaire! Love the subtle but mammoth changes as it moves into the later stanzas. I’m terribly impressed by this; thank you for sharing your talent.

That’s very kind of you Jilly, much appreciated. My music skills are rudimentary, I do play around with chord sequences to get phrasing right. I have collaborated with my musician/composer friend John Mitchell on a number of songs, Don’t want to advertise here but if you search “Mitchell- Feeney” on my blog, we wrote a couple of posts together on the process..JIM

Ok, so I got lost (happily) wandering around in FeeneyLand. Of course, it didn’t hurt that the first thing I found was Bonnie Raitt when I clicked on Music (blues fan here). I’ll be back around to have a listen to the Project.

Wow! That’s powerfully written and the message reaches the heart of the matter (or as Master Z said, “The crux of the biscuit”)!

Great lyric – like the repetition and shift in words/meanings as the verse progressed.

This is great, not only the way you used repetition but in how you used the opposites to create tension… we cannot always be in the middle, but need those poles to coexist don’t we?

i am reminded of how folk songs were created reading this, the wisdom gathered strung like beads of a rosary that i could meditate upon and feel its energy as the feelings deepened
