The Wrong Way Home
happy hours and peeler bars
he’s taking the wrong way home
a friendly toke, a line of coke
he’s taking the wrong way home
the night is young, pass that bong
he’s taking the wrong way home
a McFlurry, an Indian curry
he’s taking the wrong way home
a pounding head, a stranger’s bed
he’s taking the wrong way home
early dawn, suitcase on the lawn
he’s found his way home.
…..over at dVerse, the verse form of the month is a ghazal, this is my attempt! For a full description of the form, check out their very informative post .
Can’t comment on the form but the tale is complete here and entertaining.

Ha… love this. For sure every night comes to a harsh end if you stray from the straight way home.

A humorous ghazal! I didn’t think there could be such a thing – but perhaps, in the contemporary version, it’s permissible. Terrific poem, anyhow.

Thanks Rosemary…..yes I was unsure whether the subject matter fitted the form, but I like the idea of a refrain, so I went ahead any way!

Very modern, and apt. This captures the spirit of the form I believe – and it certainly is a poem of this time. Excellent work!

Now THIS! I can relate to because I have taken the wrong way home on several occasions, but of course now that I have finally found my way home I don’t have to do all that swerving around. That, my friend, was a Ghazal I can get behind. Thanks for sharing!
