Spoke

yesterday, I misspoke

about misspeaking

and I apologize for that

you see we are all

spokes in the same wheel

which makes us spokespeople

this carries a responsibility

we are all moving in the same direction

which is good and bad at the same time

and also comes with being part of a wheel

if you are spooked by this

I understand,

but these sentences are essentially bromides,

ephemerals

foam drying as the tide retreats

salves that salve nothing

and as such should offend no one

which is a good thing

or is it

maybe I misspoke.

Peter over at dverse invites us to play with sound, to let our words ring out!

I loved how you played with words here, especially this:

    “you see we are all

    spokes in the same wheel

    which makes us spokespeople”

Just YES. I love this stanza and I love how this is structured as well with great rhythm and flow. Brilliant piece.

Very clever Jim and pointed for our times. – ‘salves that salve nothing’ is a fine witty line – as is ‘spooked by this.’ – ha. Misspoke, miss-thought – it wasn’t so long ago these were Orwellian terms – and now they’re part of the daily discourse – I don’t know if misspoke was ever word of the year but reckon it’s up there.

The words flow along like a sailboat along the shore — until it hits a rock. You may or may not drown, but you sure as hell know you’re in immediate danger. Such a good poem, Jim.

“but these sentences are essentially bromides, ephemerals foam drying as the tide retreats
salves that salve nothing,”…. this is poetic brilliance! 🙂

An enjoyable play on words, Jim, and a cheeky allusion to the biggest mis-speaker of them all. I couldn’t stifle a laugh when I read:
    ‘spokes in the same wheel
    which makes us spokespeople
    this carries a responsibility’.

Misspoke…another one of thse “words” that you play with beautifully. Yes, mistakes are (still) being made. But we still have plenty of thoughts and prayers left. (K)
