April is the Cruelest Month (AprThCruMo)

The great TS Eliot once wrote:”April is the cruelest month”. I’m not one to make facile connections but April is also National Poetry Writing Month or NaPoWriMo which is about as un-poetic as an acronym can get and now….

poets are dutifully posting a poem a day
the blogosphere is loud with words
like babble, ripple, burble, unfurl
glow, glitter, shine, glisten
winds are blowing
suns are setting
dawns are breaking
waves are crashing
on every available shore
and birds, yes, birds
are chirping, trilling, twittering, even singing,
nature is under siege;
but I have to admit
I’m not up to it
I don’t have the diligence, the discipline
the creative bandwidth
besides it’s the second day of April
and I’m one day behind already
nothing constipates a poet
like a deadline.

Versions of this poem appear every year around this time

Jim, I hear you. I did 30 days of prompted poetry for a couple of Octobers and said no more. I do the A2Z in April and no way no how am I going to add 30 more conscripted poems to it.

I always do NaPoWriMo, and in October I do the equally unpoetically named OctPoWriMo. I’m also participating in Writers Digest’s April PAD (Poem A Day) challenge.
This year, I’m NaPoWriMo-ing in conjunction with Camp NaNoWriMo. Their website gives me fits. Sometimes I wonder why I hate myself so much.
The one I just can’t muster the wherewithal to participate in is the (in)famous A to Z challenge. I tried it several times. I just don’t seem to be a good fit for that crowd.

GREAT post. You made my Saturday. Pubtender for the April 1st OLN at dVerse, reading this one for OLN just made me crack up at the end. LOVE those last two lines! PS: I just read the NaPoWriMo prompt for today….make a Personal Universe Guide…very complex and time consuming. It might be back to the ole haiku for me today! 🙂 Thanks for participating in OLN with this post! 🙂

Too amusing, Jim, and, of course, totally relatable. While the waves were crashing, the dawns breaking, the nights falling and drifting into time, 😜 I was thinking of waking up my mind, but too late now, and yes, those acronyms, leave me cold, or maybe it’s sour grapes.
