A Particulate Matter
Trump wants to tariff Canadian wildfire smoke
Nope, it’s not a joke!
Make America Gasp Again
That was never our aim!
Smoke doesn’t take orders
It doesn’t recognize borders
It respects no bastion
It’s a product of combustion (ouch!)
So, hey all you fossil fools
Put away those tariff tools
No need for brainstorming
It’s global warming
No need for brainstorming
It’s global warming!
Oh, boy. What will he think of next.

The trouble is that the globe is not warming. Places with increasing population density are warming. Places with consistently low population density are showing weather patterns similar to the ones they showed a hundred years ago. And Canada’s problem can be plausibly explained as a matter of giving up indigenous forest management and spraying glyphosate on forests, which kills slower-burning hardwoods and dries out conifers that were combustible enough already.
Should the US still help fight Canada’s fires, anyway? It does seem that that would be better than breathing your smoke all summer long.

And yes, it IS awfully ironic for Trump to be blaming youall for the effects of spraying a poison that he knew he was elected with a mandate to ban, and has instead encouraged. What we get for electing extroverts.

Thanks for your comments, Priscilla. You make some interesting points about forest management. Global warming is ,of course a big subject, but there are metrics like ocean level, ocean temperature and ocean acidification, and glacier and ice cap melting.
On the general subject of smoke, here in Vancouver B.C we are currently breathing smoke from fires in Oregon State and our firefighters were very active in supporting firefighters in California last year. So cooperation and support is always better than the current adversarial approach favoured by Mister Trump. Thanks again for your feedback…JIM

All the fires are just a sad new reality. We’ll have to stock up on N95 masks again soon!
And here I’d thought even Trump’s SCOTUS buddies had nixed his tariff stuff.
