Snow Business

Snow Business

an Arctic cold front
Amazon trucks stuck
down snow-packed side roads

but that was 2022
this year
the winter is mild
that low January sun
illuminating the dust under the sofa
and that kid’s toy from Christmas
that no one could find.

south of the border
the president is obsessed with Greenland
there’s no business like snow business

he says

but Greenland
where all the brass monkeys sing soprano
and Ice has a different meaning
is a long, long way from Mar-A-Lago

Over at dverse the prompt is “snow”.

Your poem strikes a chord .. deeply. Feels like winter shrinking and expanding together from the snow-packed roads to the dust you can see in January’s sunlight. Politics are anchored beautifully … brilliant work.

Great take on the prompt, Jim. The way things are going, in the UK we might not be using Amazon or seeing their trucks, even ‘stuck down snow-packed side roads’, the orange one has put paid to that with his Greenland obsession. I can’t see him spending any time there, it is indeed a ‘long, long way from Mar-A-Lago’. There must be a way to grab him and dump him in the most remote part of Greenland and see how he likes it.

Ha – love the title and so appropriate as current events unravel. He wouldn’t spend time there, where would he golf at tax payers expense?

That low sun annoys me in the mornings before I go to work but luckily I’ve forgotten about the dust, now invisible, when I get home again! Now I have the Beastie Boys in my head “You put your left leg down, your right leg up…”Nicely written 👏
