Poster
poster on the wall
Lennon at a piano
deconstructing Paul.
Perspective
imagine,
you, a frog
down a well,
above you
only sky.
Taking part in open link over at earthweal. This is obviously a re-post, I have not been inside a pub in Kitsilano or anywhere else for a few weeks. I was working on a few pandemic-related poems but it’s hard to keep pace with events.
I was so glad to read you are staying out of pubs and safe. The poster and the poems are haunting. Wonderful work! Your style intrigues me. The echo of John: “above us, only sky…..” Sigh. What would he make of this world, which has strayed so far from his imaginings.

‘Lennon at a piano / deconstructing Paul, made me smile, Jim, and I like the echoes of Lennon and Basho’s frog in ‘Perspective’.

Quite trip down the memory hole with these, Jim. Amazing how you can say so much with so few words. Lennon’s horrific death used to make me cry–at this point, I am thinking ‘only the good die young’ instead.

Imagine indeed. I guess we insert the Sun King here.

Yes, John’s vision only works out for the ones already free. But if the youth can’t be idealistic, who can? There’s a whole lot of hurt we need to heal, looking oppression in the face and our own hand in it, before we can begin to dream with a clean conscience.
